MACRUA is a theatrical soft rock band lead by singer/songwriter and showman Aaron Smith (whos stage name is also MACRUA) — delivering powerhouse vocals, theatrical flair, and emotionally rich songs rooted in classic rock storytelling. With a sound somewhere between Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Meat Loaf, whille also being inspired by emerging artists such as CMAT and Inhaler, MacRua’s music is both nostalgic and brand new.

MACRUA is both the stage name of singer/songwriter Aaron Smith and the dynamic band behind him — a soft rock force blending the golden sounds of Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Billy Joel, and Meat Loaf into something fresh, unique, and deeply heartfelt.

Hailing from Carlow, Ireland, MACRUA has built a reputation for his emotive lyricism, unforgettable melodies, and electrifying live performances that blur the line between rock concert and theatre show. Drawing on his background in musical theatre, MacRua brings every note and lyric to life — inviting audiences to not just watch, but feel, sing, and live the music with him.

The band’s sound moves seamlessly from feel-good rock anthems to piano-driven ballads and hook-laced guitar solos, all wrapped in emotional storytelling that explores love, loss, growth, and chaos with theatrical flair. MACRUA’s performances are immersive experiences, with a connection to the crowd that’s genuine, magnetic, and unmistakably fun.

In 2025, MACRUA teamed up with producer Dave Ayers (Studio 51) to record their debut EP, Initiation. This 5 track journey sets to define MACRUA’s sound, and makes an effort to solidify the bands direction for the future and is our first real statement piece, saying this is MACRUA.

Their first independent single, “Shotgun,” quickly caught fire among fans and fellow artists, landing him shows in Whelan’s Main Room, Fibber Magees, The Grand Social, The Tower Carlow, VISUAL Theatre Carlow, and The Arts Centre Kildare, and garnering radio interest, with TodayFM, Beat and KCLR.

Now, with a growing catalogue and an unstoppable live show, MACRUA is stepping fully into their sound — theatrical, bold, and authentically his own. For fans of timeless rock and unforgettable live energy, MACRUA is not just a band, or an artist — it’s an experience.
